About Kahawa

A story that is still being written

Why does Kahawa exist

Coffee has always been more than just a drink. For many people, it's a daily ritual. A moment of focus before the day begins, or a break in the middle.

In the 15th century, in the mountains of Yemen, Sufi monks cultivated coffee to sustain long hours of prayer and devotion. From there, coffee traveled along ancient trade routes through Africa and Asia before reaching the Americas. Over time, it became a part of daily life around the world.

The word "Kahawa" reflects that journey. It comes from the Arabic word "qahwa," which later became "kahawa" in Swahili as coffee spread through different regions and cultures. Coffee has always connected people, ideas, and the places where it's grown. We see ourselves as part of that continuing story.

What We Believe

We live in an age of convenience. Yet, somewhere along the way, what we consumed became a commodity: grown for yield, optimized for scale, and disconnected from the earth from which it came.

We believe that what you consume daily matters. Not just for the taste, but for how it makes you feel, what it does for your body, and how it affects the world around you. Coffee is no exception. It's often the first conscious choice we make in the day.

That's why we created Kahawa.

Our Story

Behind Kahawa is a person. My name is Dennis and I founded Kahawa because I truly love coffee. For a time, I worked on coffee farms in Brazil, from organic and regenerative systems to conventional farms. That experience allowed me to get to know different ways of growing coffee up close. Today, I live in Asunción, where we roast in small batches and work directly with the farms you see on these pages.

Our Commitment

Every bean we offer is grown under organic and regenerative farming principles, sourced directly from South American farms that we personally know and trust. As Paraguay's first organic coffee subscription, we roast in small batches in Asunción and deliver to your doorstep with complete traceability, from farm to cup.

Choosing coffee grown this way supports healthier soils, balanced ecosystems, and more responsible farming practices, without the use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides.

We don't say we're perfect. We say we're committed. To cleaner cultivation, responsible sourcing, and coffee that's worth drinking every day.

Where is our coffee grown

Grown in Living Ecosystems

In Brazil's coffee-growing regions, our partner farms cultivate coffee within living ecosystems, not industrial fields. The coffee grows alongside native trees, flowering plants, and wildlife, creating a landscape where biodiversity and healthy soils naturally sustain the coffee plants.

A Living Mosaic

Shade-grown coffee crops are integrated with forest corridors and restored natural areas. Native bees pollinate the plants, while the maned wolf – an endangered species – still roams the surrounding landscape.

To maintain this natural balance, producers use agroforestry: they plant selected tree species that provide shade, enrich the soil, and attract beneficial insects. This way, they work with nature, not against it.

Farms that look alive

Regenerative farms rarely look perfectly manicured. They look alive. Birds move through the trees, and insects thrive in the undergrowth. The landscape resembles a forest more than a plantation.

Once, a producer joked that there are so many birds that it becomes annoying. That is exactly the goal. The goal is not just to feed the plant, but to nourish the soil that sustains it.

Cultivating Coffee for the Future

Every decision on the farm is guided by a simple question: how can we leave this land healthier than we found it? Through regenerative practices and long-term care, exceptional coffee and responsible agriculture grow from the same soil.
